Mission Trip Forms

2009-2010 Mission Trips

Mission trips offer unique physical, spiritual and emotional challenges and opportunities. If you are interested in participating on one of these journeys, application forms that outline particular requirements and expectations for each trip are available at the church office or by contacting Bede Campbell at 404.495.8428 or bcampbell@trinityatlanta.org. All are welcome to apply.

 Adults

Cuba
October 13-20, 2009; Spring 2010
Cost: $2,000*

A group from Trinity is traveling to Cuba this fall. The Rev. David Burns will be leading the trip which will include visiting our friends at La Playa Presbyterian Church in Matanzas, Luyano Presbyterian Church in Havana, and First Dora E. Valentin Presbyterian Church in Varadero. The trip will also include a visit to the Theological Seminary of Matanzas, which Trinity helps support. The purpose of the trip is to strengthen and deepen the relationship we have with our Cuban brothers and sisters and to understand how we can work together to build a bridge between our two countries. A similar trip is planned for the spring.

 

New Orleans
January 25 - 31, 2010
Cost: $225


Trinity members and friends will have an opportunity to travel to New Orleans on our sixth mission trip to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina. More than four years after the hurricane, there continues to be a desperate shortage of housing in New Orleans. Accommodations, transportation and most meals are included in the cost of the trip.

 

El Salvador
March 6-14, 2010
Cost: $1600*


Spend a week with fellow Trinity members on a Habitat for Humanity Global Village mission trip to El Salvador. Depending on the project, volunteers will help with the construction, repair or expansion of a family’s home. At the work site there will be designated resting zones with drinkable water, as well as bathroom facilities with water and soap. The maximum number of participants is 16. The minimum age requirement is 17 (participants under 18 must travel with a parent. The cost includes a $400 donation to Habitat El Salvador, a $100 donation to Habitat for Humanity International, meals, accommodations, transport within the country, plus airfare from Atlanta to San Salvador and visa and airport exit fees.

 

Palestine
April or May 2010


Joining Hands subcommittee from the Greater Atlanta Presbytery is sponsoring a trip to Palestine/Israel in late April - early May 2010, led by Fahed Abu-Akel and Sarah Humphrey. The group will visit our sister networks in the West Bank. In addition, we will visit organizations working toward peace and reconciliation in Israel/Palestine, as well as visit historical sites in the Old City of Jerusalem and in the Galilee area. Kenya
May 20 - June 2, 2010
Cost: $2,500*


The Kenya Team is planning a trip for approximately 16 adults and older youth (high school seniors and college students) to further our relationships with Simurina Presbyterian Church of East Africa parish and the Presbyterian University of East Africa in Kikuyu. Several days of the trip will be spent building a new relationship with Kiambu Presbyterian Church of East Africa parish outside Nairobi, where we have been invited to join them in reaching out to youth with a basketball tournament and to vulnerable children and the poor. The approximate cost of the trip includes a two-day safari to the Masai Mara.

 

Haiti

The Global Mission Committee is exploring possibilities of collaborating with other churches in the presbytery who have been engaged in mission at LaGonave, Haiti. A trip may be planned for late spring or summer.


 Youth

Asheville
October 23-25, 2009
Cost: $75


Junior high youth are invited to get to know their PYC advisors and classmates on this mission trip to Asheville, NC. The group will leave Friday after school and return Sunday afternoon.

 

Atlanta
June 14-18, 2010
Cost: free


Rising 6th and 7th graders spend a week immersed in mission work in metro Atlanta. Faith in Action is held during the week of Vacation Ventures.

 

Paraguay
June 30 - July 7, 2010
Cost: $1200*


Senior high youth will work with Rivers of the World in Paraguay to build a medical clinic along side a group of Muslim teenagers.

 

Arkansas
July 11-17, 2010
Cost: $300

Junior high youth will spend a week at the Heifer Ranch in rural Arkansas learning about world hunger issues and participating in service projects.
