Trinity Explores! Launches Fall Program
Understanding Islam: Conversation with Muslims
Sundays, September 20, 27; October 4
5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Make plans now to participate in a series of “table top” discussions with members of the Atlanta Muslim community. Led by Columbia’s Professor Emeritus Reverend Ben Johnson, Trinity’s Sandra Mackey, and representatives of the Muslim community, the conversations will bring together people of different faiths but common desires. These gatherings aim to help us have a deeper understanding of each other’s beliefs, values, and vision for the community.
Since his retirement from Columbia, the Reverend Johnson has designed an effective model that encourages person-to-person conversation between Christians and Muslims. Similar efforts at Shallowford and First Presbyterian have resulted in overwhelmingly positive responses.
Each evening the group will sit together around tables, listen to a presentation, and engage in conversation that grows out of it. The participants will sit at tables of six or eight, with each faith represented. Following the presentations, the leader will make suggestions for table conversation. Middle-eastern snack food will be served.
Some of the Trinity Explores! committee members have attended prior conversations that Ben has led and were amazed and inspired. Our sister churches in Northwest Atlanta will be invited to participate in this major event. Make reservations with Bede Campbell (404 495 8428, bcampbell@trinityatlanta.org) early, and plan to bring a neighborhood friend. There is no charge for this event.
