Dr. Scott Black Johnston
Senior Pastor

Before beginning in his official capacity as Trinity's third Senior Pastor in August, 2003, Scott was the Jean Brown Associate Professor of Homiletics and Liturgics at the Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Austin, Texas, where he had been since 1993. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from St. Olaf College (1986), a Master of Divinity from the Divinity School at Yale University (1989), and a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Princeton Theological Seminary (1994). Scott was ordained in 1991 and has previously served as interim pastor in the Reformed Church of North Brunswick, New Jersey (1992-93); as interim preacher for churches in San Antonio and Bertram, Texas; and as Scholar-in-Residence for First Presbyterian Church in Dallas, Texas (1999).

Scott is the recipient of many honors from St. Olaf College, Yale Divinity School, and Princeton Theological Seminary, which reflect his creative scholarship and excellence in preaching and public speaking. He has authored reviews, articles, and books and led seminars and teaching conferences throughout the denomination. He is widely sought as a gifted preacher and pulpit teacher.

Born in New Jersey, Scott’s mother was the daughter of Dutch Reformed farmers; his father was the son of Scottish Presbyterian immigrants. When Scott was ten years old, his parents moved to Minnesota to "raise their boys in the country." Scott's wife, Amy Black Johnston, was born in Atlanta and is a nurse practitioner who specialized in women’s health. They have a daughter, Isabella, ("Izzy"), and a son, Oliver, ("Ollie").

In his spare time, Scott enjoys tennis, soccer, fishing, golf, chess, cooking, and spending time with friends. Additionally, he gives his time and talents as an amateur carpenter to Habitat for Humanity.

 

The Rev. David Burns
Executive Pastor

Before joining the Trinity staff in 2005 David was senior pastor of Spring Branch Presbyterian Church, a small, growing congregation in Houston, Texas. He held this position with notable success since his graduation in 1999 from Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, where he received his MDiv and studied with – among others – then Austin faculty member Scott Black Johnston. Before his years at Austin, David served as youth director in Baptist and Methodist churches in Colorado, Texas, and Louisiana. Just prior to entering the seminary, David was director of the Presbyterian Westminster Center at Louisiana Tech University.

In addition to his degree from Austin Seminary, David Burns holds a BA, with a major in history, from Kansas State University and an MA in Marriage and Family Counseling from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He has been recognized as an outstanding student at all stages of his education.

David’s wife Sarah is a math teacher. An outgoing and engaging couple, David and Sarah have two sons, Caleb and Luke.

 

The Rev. P.C. Enniss
Theologian in Residence

P.C. (Buddy) Enniss has served as Trinity’s part-time Theologian in Residence since 1997 and once served as Interim Senior Pastor during 2001-2002. His experience includes 22 years of service as a pastor in the Atlanta area, where he served as senior minister of Central Presbyterian Church from 1976 to 1989, and as founding pastor of Hillside Presbyterian Church in Decatur from 1958 to 1967. Buddy has also served as interim pastor at First Presbyterian Church in New York City, and as senior pastor at the Reformed Church of Bronxville, New York; First Presbyterian in Tallahassee, Florida; and Meadowview Presbyterian Church in Louisville, Kentucky.

A graduate of Davidson College, Buddy holds Bachelor of Divinity and Master of Theology degrees from Columbia Theological Seminary and an honorary doctorate from Davidson College.

 

The Rev. Leah Horton
Associate Pastor for Adult Ministries

Leah is an experienced teacher, administrator and advocate. A candidate for a Ph.D. at Emory University’s Graduate Division of Religion, Leah has focused on how religious education can best enable people in faith communities to live out their beliefs in practice. This approach also embodies the new vision for adult ministries at Trinity.

Leah earned her Master of Divinity degree from Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky, and her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Virginia. Her experience includes adjunct teaching at Columbia Theological Seminary and Candler School of Theology; directing the Lay Institute of Theology at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary; directing Christian Education at Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church in Augusta, Georgia, while winning both undergraduate and graduate awards, most recently in Biblical studies.

Formerly an Elder at Atlanta’s Central Presbyterian Church, Leah was Chair of the Board of Directors for the Outreach and Advocacy Center, which advocates with and for the city’s most marginalized citizens, and  has taught in Central’s adult and youth programs.  She currently serves on Westminster’s Christian Commitment Committee. Leah and her husband, Bill, a surgeon at the Emory Spine Center, have three daughters, Lindsey, Lauren, and Brooks. 

 

The Rev. Katie Givens Kime
Associate Pastor for Adult Ministries

A native of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Katie received a bachelor of arts with academic honors from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, with a double major in communication science and rhetorical and religious studies. After college, Katie immersed herself in an AmeriCorps position in an impoverished mountain region of rural Idaho.  There she coordinated mediation services for juveniles in the court system and conducted home visits with at-risk families. She also worked with the County Prosecutor’s office to establish a multi-disciplinary approach to child abuse/neglect prevention in that community.

During her time in AmeriCorps, Katie felt the call to ministry. Knowing the historical commitment that Union Theological Seminary in New York has for training mission-minded clergy in an urban setting, Katie chose to spend her next three years , where she was named the prestigious Auburn Scholar of her class. While at seminary, she trained as a chaplain at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York, served as Theological Student Advisory Delegate to the 2004 General Assembly, and served as a Ministry Fellow through the Fund for Theological Education.

Before receiving her Master of Divinity from Union in 2005, Katie was was invited to serve as an intern at the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church. She has also taught in the Center for Christian Studies.

Katie and her husband Haddon Kime were married at Union in May 2005.

 

Norman Mackenzie
Director of Music and Fine Arts

Norman was called to Trinity Presbyterian Church in 1983.He serves as Director of Music and Fine arts, and oversees a comprehensive program including seven singing and ringing choirs and two concert series. He also serves as Director of Choruses for the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, inheriting and continuing the legacy of legendary conductor Robert Shaw, and maintains an active solo recital and guest conducting schedule each season. He holds degrees from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia and Westminster Choir College.

 

The Rev. Erin McGee
Associate Pastor for Ministry to Children and Their Families

Having served over the last 14 years as associate pastor and student intern in various churches, Erin has extensive experience with curriculum and program development, education for mission, and has sound administrative and budget skills, as well. She recognizes the continual need for nurturing and developing the gifts and talents of staff and parent volunteers within the community of faith.

Erin’s formal education includes a B.A. in psychology, with an emphasis on child development, from Davidson College, and a M.Div. from Austin Theological Seminary. During seminary, Erin served as an intern in children’s ministry at Myers Park Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, North Carolina. Her first call was as associate pastor in Summerville, South Carolina, followed by a position with the Presbyterian Church (USA) in Louisville, Kentucky, as associate for curriculum development for children. Before coming to Trinity, Erin was an associate pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Kerrville, Texas.

Erin is a single parent with two adopted children from India, Hannah and Jonathan.

 

John Ryan
Director of Ministry to Youth and Their Families

John brings to Trinity more than 12 years of experience in youth ministry. Before coming to Trinity he served as the Director of Youth Ministry at First Presbyterian Church of Dalton, Georgia. He has served multiple times on planning teams and as a conference director for the Cherokee Presbytery, the Montreat Youth Conference, the Presbyterian Youth Triennium, and numerous other regional and national youth events.

John holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania.  He continued his formal education at the Presbyterian School of Christian Education, where he earned a Master of Arts degree. Through these degrees John has received the theological and educational training that has helped him define who he is as an educator.  He has achieved recognition as a Certified Christian Educator, having studied to meet the stringent requirements for certification, as defined in the Book of Order.
